JOM TARI Traversing Space, Virtual Dance Performance, In Celebration of International Dance Day 2021
International Dance Day, which falls on 29th April every year, celebrates dance as an art form that brings people together across cultural divides. Our Dance Department recognizes the significance of this celebration and has organized performances since 2019 in efforts to advocate DANCE. We produced site-specific pieces in 2019 to create awareness about our existence and to promote diversity in dances on the campus. Last year, despite of the Movement Control Order (MCO) that was enforced due to rising Covid-19 cases, we celebrated dance by producing a video with the theme "Dancing amidst Covid-19" in which we featured “dancing from home”. Following the success of the virtual performance, we decided to come up with another virtual live performance this year, but this time, we aimed to produce an international collaborative event by inviting choreographers from Malaysia and abroad, namely the U.S.A, United Arab Emirates, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea, and Hong Kong. This year’s production will feature 16 pieces that cover various dance genres - classical, traditional, and contemporary. We are extremely delighted to present to you these diverse works. We take this opportunity to share our gratitude and thank our local and international collaborators for their contribution and support in making our mission possible!

Time flies but memories are timeless, hopefully together we can find our true selves, putting together the puzzle of memories.
Eye See: A double bill graduation performance in partial fulfilment of RQA7002 research project
This double bill screendance presentation entitled “Eye See” is Tan Bee Hung’s effort in partial fulfilment of RQA7002 research project for University Malaya’s Faculty of Creative Arts - Master of Dance. Two pieces of screendance entitled “It Doesn’t Go Away” and “Now You See Me” will be presented.
月光 Moonlight
我要月亮 不要蜘蛛 根据真人真事, 文学著作改编 锺洁希为癌症病患筹募基金，全国巡回10场《月光》舞台剧场场爆满，好评如潮。 《月光》 话剧剧剧本根据真人真事及结合了中英经典文学著作编写，其中也注入了锺洁希对爱情的观点和体验。本剧由锺洁希领衔主演，为第一女主角。而第一男主角和第二男主角分别演出过多部话剧和参演电影《百武禁忌》及《女侠》的出德文和陈永山。 剧中爱、恨、亲情、道德、责任复杂的情节，让观众全然投入了高潮迭起的剧情中，随着剧情的起伏感动洒泪。

There was a milkman who lived in a small village with his family - his wife, Golde and their five daughters. Everyone there strongly practised traditional values and there was also massive pressure from the Tzar, but Tevye's three eldest daughters did not want to go by tradition in marrying husbands through a matchmaker. Will Tevye accept his daughters' decisions or interfere in this matter?
珍夕 Cherish
On New Year's eve, a family of five broke up because of a quarrel between the brother during the reunion dinner. The parents have high hopes for the eldest brother but never understood the inner thought & feelings of the eldest brother. The eldest brother envied his younger brother for not being restrained by his parents & at the same time the younger brother didn't know how to cherish this freedom. 除夕来临，一家五口的团圆饭因为兄弟之间的吵架而闹到不欢而散。父母对大哥寄予厚望却从来都没有正视大哥内心的想法。大哥羡慕自己的弟弟不被父母约束同时也生气他不懂得珍惜这份自由。从小被父母忽略的二哥嫉妒大哥能够得到父母的关注，于是便一直想办法搞事情，希望博得父母的注意。久而久之，他变得叛逆，走上了违法犯罪的不归路，越陷越深。兄弟俩之间的矛盾造成了一场意想不到的悲剧。父母开始意识到自己的忽略和偏心，一股内疚和后悔的感觉油然而生。经过一番波折后，一家人终于解开心结，找回了和融融的幸福感觉。
囚爱 The Imprisoned
灵感来自萨拉·凯恩（英国）剧本《渴爱》。 有别于一般剧本的写法，此剧以碎片且不连贯的对话，呈现了对生命的挣扎与渴求，字里行间描绘出灵魂深处幽暗的低语，却也充满了迷离的诗意。内容无关特定时空，它存在于生活的各个角落，在人与人不愿提起的回忆之中。 当一个人眼里只有自己深切的苦痛和欲求，他心中的爱便被自己深锁其中，逐渐消亡。剧中有四个灵魂被困在人造的牢笼，与过去的鬼魂纠缠不清。他们自言自语、对号入座、不顾一切向大众诉说，将自己的所有言语拼凑成倾诉伤口的碎片，企图以此疗伤，但他们只顾着说，什么也听不进去。在转变即将开始时，一切已无法挽回。

Moka Mocha Ink presents a triptych of new short films by Ridhwan Saidi about discourse, desire, and duty. In Tentang Cinta, two urban lovers discuss about relationship on their way to a free range farm. In Cahaya Pusara, Lara visits her long lost relative to confront her nostalgia. In Penyiasat Malam, a debt collector discovers a murder victim in his client’s home, that brings him face to face with a beastly figure.
Oppy & Professor Communitas
Oppy & Professor Communitas is set at a weekend workshop for arts practitioners where the two main characters encounter one another as participant and trainer. Oppy is a happy-go-lucky young man who is feeling stuck as a freelance actor. The trainer, who breaks all the rules about being nice to people at workshops, is an aging professor who wants to teach people like Oppy a disciplined approach to making great works of art. He is also a compulsive storyteller who helps his students to “makan teori” (eat theory) by bundling it into the real-life stories he tells in class. Suspicious of anything that could make him lose his freedom as an artist and an individual, Oppy resists the older man’s teachings. But along the way, he also begins to wonder if he isn't missing out on something.
SURI
Based on the legendary Malay folklore, “Mahsuri” which tells the story of a woman vengefully accused of adultery due to her beauty and innocence and executed by stabbing. SURI intends to explore the intrinsic qualities of the legendary character “Mahsuri”, and to establish a robust link between the traditional values her story holds the present-day topics. Delving into the key motifs and elements in the “Mahsuri” story, SURI in highlighting issues of slander and shaming, interprets the significance of these aspects of today’s context.
SEL AKHIR
SEL AKHIR mengisahkan tiga orang banduan yang menanti hari terakhir sebelum mereka dijatuhi hukuman gantung sampai mati. Mereka bertiga di tempatkan di dalam bilik penjara akhir bagi banduan yang akan dihukum gantung. HAFIS, ALIAS dan OSMAN berperang dalam diri, rasa takut, ngeri, geram, terkilan, sedih, sayu dan seribu satu rasa bermain di fikiran mereka dalam menanti hukuman.

Eye On The Ball
The true definition of ‘against all odds’, ‘Eye on The Ball’ is a 2019 sports documentary film that follows Malaysia's national blind football team, known as the Harimau Buta (Blind Tigers) and their remarkable journey in the 2017 ASEAN Para Games. Detailing the lives of four individuals: players Asri, Kenchot and Rollen, along with their coach, Sunny Shalesh, the documentary covers the team’s hopes to defend their reigning title and also qualify for the World Blind Football Championship.

Badrish & The Beatles
In this music film, a troubled boy LIVE streams a tribute concert that celebrates his favourite band, The Beatles. As the stream progresses, he unearths traumatic memories of his past in a tale of grief, loss and love, where past and future collide. Badrish aspires to make the international stage, be it Broadway or Hollywood. Badrish was part of Dato’ Dr. Faridah Merican’s Life Sdn Bhd: Voices of the Young, presented by The Actors Studio Seni Teater Rakyat and KLPAC. Badrish, co-wrote the stage adaptation of Yasmin Ahmad's masterpiece film, Sepet the Musical with the director for the show, Shafeeq Shajahan. Sepet the Musical presented by Liver & Lung Productions and was nominated for Best Direction and Best Original Score in the Musical Theatre category.

Unity (1918)
“Unity (1918)” by Kevin Kerr tells the story of small town Unity, Canada - as the residents are forced to confront the 1918 flu pandemic that begins to sweep the planet, aided by the movement of troops at the tail end of WWI. KL 2020, 11 actors and a small crew record a performance of this multi award-winning play in the quiet theatre of the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre in between two lockdowns amidst another global pandemic.
Blossoming - Drawing x Music
In the aftermath of her ordeal with domestic violence, local artist Prabh Lahari found freedom of expression through the arts to portray the insights she gained through that difficult period of time and the time after. Her artwork will be accompanied by music exclusively composed by local composer Lawrence Chiu. 在遭受家庭暴力的煎熬之后，本地艺术家Prabh Lahari在艺术中找到了表达自由的权利，通过绘画来描绘她所经历的艰难时期和在往后的日子中获得的看法。 本地年轻作曲家Lawrence Chiu也为她的作品创作了属于每一幅画的的音乐。
