Week 4: Malaysian Student Film Festival
MSFF presents Week 4 of 4 weeks: Rounding up the final 3 short films of our month-long exciting line-up. Last but certainly not least, the 3 films come from King’s College London, University of Sheffield and the University of Warwick, concluding with a bang featuring a music and dance performance video, director’s interviews and behind the scenes footage! 《别说爱错》是一部现代浪漫爱情温馨小品，改编经典爱情小说重现舞台。星音符邀请来自美国的李安田亲自操刀执导兼主演，锺洁希担任第一女主角。参与演出《别说爱错》话剧的演员包括了马杰飞《音乐盒》及《红楼梦》的男主角，目前也是大学主修戏剧及音乐表演系，同时也集聚了多位资深演员同台演出。 Say you love me, that we’re meant to be. “Meant to Be” is a heartful, romantic stage adaptation of a classic novel about modern love.

《浪 x Lepak》不仅仅是一张鼓歌专辑，它也承载了我们与疫情搏斗的精神。 这些日子，这一群人，继续热衷于音乐创作的巨细靡遗。 这是一部“随手拍”的影像记录，记录了疫情底下人人人鼓剧场从排练、创作、检讨、思考，再创作……一直到进入录音状态，渐渐看见专辑的雏形，漫长的等待“对”的时刻。 过程中的困惑、激荡、整理，都被镜头偷偷地捕捉下来。 《浪（lang4）x Lepak》isn’t just a music album. It also carries the spirit of our struggle against the pandemic. In this period of time, this group of people remains passionate about every single detail in music making. This is a “homemade” documentary film that records how Orang Orang Drum Theatre has worked during the pandemic. From rehearsals and the creating process, to reviewing, reflecting, and creating again... until the works were ready to be recorded. The blueprint for this music album gradually took shape. There was a long wait for the “right” moment. All the doubts, brainstorming, and organisation behind this process have been secretly caught on lens.

Bollywood Dreams
Two brothers, Pappu and Babu live with ‘Amma’ in Sungai Petani. ‘Go. Study. Play. Anything, but quietly. I do not want to hear you’, Amma says. Short+Sweet Malaysia 2020 (Dance & Theatre)
SHORT+SWEET Malaysia 2020 kicked off in October 2020 with SHORT+SWEET Film followed by SHORT+SWEET Stand-Up Comedy+Song and SHORT+SWEET Musical. Unfortunately, the festival was put on pause due to the CMCO. We’re delighted to premiere the final two segments SHORT+SWEET Dance and SHORT+SWEET Theatre online on CloudTheatre from 5 – 6 June.

A tale of romance, family, everlasting friendships, and unchanging, true love, “Music Box”, based on a true story. To raise funds for cancer patients, Jessie Chung toured around the world with the stage play “Music Box”, performing 17 shows, each time to a full house of enthusiastic audience.
The Spice Road 香料之路
The pandemic has brought us further away than ever from each other in the social life, but it ironically has brought us closer than ever to each other’s situation - locked up in isolation. The Spice Road project has assembled 10 artists from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Nepal, India, Egypt, Uganda, Germany, France and Peru, each making a solo about food and their local struggle under the pandemic in their local contexts. Portraying profound stories of the international artists, fusing cinematography, movement and music, these solos reflect the multi-dimensional experiences - familiar yet distinct feelings of a distant human being encountering the same coronavirus. 全球大疫症迫使我們史無前例地增加社交距離，卻同時前所未有地將我們拉近至這麼接近的處境——被困在各種隔離之中。 《香料之路》蒐集了十位來自香港、台灣、尼泊爾、印度、烏干達、德國、法國及秘魯的藝術家，因應各人在疫情下處境，分別創作關於食物與抗疫的獨腳戲。透過攝影、肢體及音樂，十位藝術家演出深刻的本土掙扎，帶動觀眾經歷既遠且近的情感，與遠在他方的人共同面對疫症日新月異的發展。
Vortice Voyeur: From Water Station, by OtaShogo 渦窺
Vortice Voyeur is a digital presentation that explores the theme of live perfomances in a virtual space (aka your personal space). Most importantly, it questions if theatre could be presented out of a conventional theatre space and still retains its theatrical experiential quality experienced by the viewer. Artistically, it also explores how digital art and performance could co-exist in a virtual space mediated by live streaming.
The Hollowed Man 2.0 窿人•異
Will God wake up one day and find out he’s been emptied of everything? The oppressed are constantly being hollowed out. Freedom, living space, discourse right, dignity, right to free choice, emotional expression, desires, and even the breath - until nothing is left. Who has been draining us? What can we rely on? The faith in God? Isn’t it an act of hollowing out God, when people go against His will but claiming themselves as His disciples? How shall God resist? No one is born to be The Hollowed Man, autonomy is our natural right. Let’s rip off our “Ego” shell layer by layer, gaze into the eyes of and eviscerate the devil from within, until spiritual liberation is embraced. 神會否有天醒來發現自己變得一無所有？ 受壓迫者不斷被掏空。 自由、 生活的空間、話語的權利、尊嚴、選擇權、情緒表達、慾望、 以致呼吸 。直到一無所有。誰在掏空著我們？ 我們有什麼可以倚靠？信靠神？ 不行神意旨卻自認教徒的，不就是在掏空著神嗎？神會如何抗爭？ 沒有誰天生就是 The Hollowed Man，自主是我們天生的權利。讓我們逐層逐層剝開「自我」的外殻，直面掏空內在的魔鬼，擁抱精神上的自由。
The Way We Live 打工人的日與夜
當“打工人”已經成了時下網絡流行用語的時候，它的詞意被粉飾和擴大了，似乎從事所有職業的人都可以被稱為打工人。調侃和自嘲慢慢掩蓋了這個詞原初的艱辛和階層差異，更無法讓人深入探究不同年齡、不同地域、不同行業的勞動者所面臨的壓力和具體處境。本次展映選取2020年秋本碩紀錄片課程中的作品，通過年輕人的視角引領觀眾走進在石家莊、深圳、廣州、香港等幾個不同城市的普通打工人的世界，期望可以令我們放下一些喧囂、一些浮躁，感同身受打工人真實的日常⋯⋯

"人與政權的鬥爭，就是記憶與遺忘的鬥爭。"——米蘭昆德拉 兩個房間，兩個人。 不記得什麼時候開始、什麼時候結束; 不記得如何進來、如何離開; 也不記得為什麼不記得了。 她雖然腦袋忘記了，但身體還記得， 還記得忘記之前天上飛過的一隻鳥，像是派來帶走她的。 他其實一直都記得，但希望她忘記， 雜亂的衣服像是熄滅她記憶裡的燈，含糊而碎片的美好幻想。 當那間小房子被發現時，他已經死去了好幾天，死因有待查證。 初步鑑定他年齡約 50 多歲。被發現時他身邊放著一本陳舊的筆記本， 裡頭兩種筆跡，寫著多首詩歌、畫作與故事。 一個整齊娟秀、一個瞭亂粗獷。 卜卜劇場首次線上演出，將其作品《下人》解構重塑， 一場生還者與犧牲者間的對話與相惜，為時下遍布各地的民主鬥爭譜寫革命詩歌。 “The struggle of man against power is the struggle of memory against forgetting” - Milan Kundera Two rooms, two persons. Not remembering when it started, and when it ended; Not remembering the entering, or the departing; Not remembering why not remembering. Although her mind has forgotten, her body remembers, Remembering a bird that has flown in the sky, as if sent to take her away. He actually remembers all this time, but hoping that she would forget, messy clothes are like a light that dims her memory, a vague and fragmented beautiful fantasy. When the small house was found, he had been dead for several days, the cause of death yet to be verified. He was about 50 years old, from preliminary findings. He was found with an aged notebook next to him. It had two kinds of handwriting and many poems, drawings and stories. One is neat and elegant, the other is messy and raw. Pitapat Theater presents its first online performance, deconstructing and reconstructing its work "Kakak". It is a dialogue and mutual appreciation between the survivors and the victims, penning a revolutionary poem for today’s democratic struggles.
