“Once Upon a Time” is a 5 part series of the almost forgotten Malaysian folklore, legends and tales of yesteryears. Each part consists of two stories, with the duration of 45 minutes each. Part 4 of the series will feature “The Adventures of Musang Berjanggut” and “Sanggul Beracun : The Revenge of Cik Siti”.

第十七届北方大学文艺慈善晚会月影心随心之《壹玖零一：世异时移》首次以线上形式进行文艺慈善晚会。此文艺慈善晚会主打内部表演，从导到演都是由北大生们亲手策划。我们也将捐款至受益团体以帮助有需要的群体。北大月影心随心希望通过此晚会可以让大众在线上观赏到精彩绝伦的表演。 Hand In Hand Under The Moonlight - "1901: Timestream", will be conducting it's very first online event night. The said event will be mainly focusing on internal performances, for instance, per-planned performances which will be performed by Universiti Utara Malaysia students. We will also be carrying out charity works to benefit groups that are in desperate need of help. With that, Hand In Hand Under The Moonlight hopes everyone could enjoy the wonderful performances throughout this event night.

因突如其来的疫情，让我们无法实行实体演出。但随着科技不断的创新发展也给我们带来了不一样的演出平台。本次线上演出定于12月18日，晚上8点正会在Cloud Theatre 的平台上展现长达1小时15分钟的20支精彩节目。大家可以在Cloud Theatre 平台上购买入场票价RM15。此次演出为发掘与栽培舞者，为热爱舞蹈的少儿及青年提升自信心，并为大家带来更精彩的演出 。 Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we were unable to conduct physical performance. Luckily, because of the rapid development of technology, it has provided us a different performance platform. This online performance will be conducted on 18th of December, 8pm, on Cloud Theatre platform for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Besides, the tickets will be sold on Cloud Theatre platform with RM15/admission. The purposes of this online performance are to discover and cultivate dancers, provide more performances opportunities to dancers and also enhance their self-confidence.

With a lean team and a tight budget, it’s a struggle to keep the entire enterprise afloat in an environment where mainstream media is government-controlled and the ruling party doesn’t look kindly upon dissent. But with the introduction of anti-“fake news” legislation that would allow government ministers to become arbiters of truth, the environment in Singapore might become tougher than it’s ever been. 正当 Jackey 与 Sam 在检讨“同居第100天“之际，Jackey 的妈妈在家乡与好姐妹阿姨庆祝生日。常常将儿子Jackey挂在嘴边的妈妈，虽然口说儿子没有帮她庆祝没有问题，但眉目间又透露了她其实很在意这个想法。阿姨见状便以玩笑的方式来聊天帮助妈妈解开这郁闷的感觉。孰不知，原来妈妈心中藏着的心事，远远超出阿姨的想象！努力隐藏自己”私事“和”同居“的Jackey到底被妈妈察觉到吗？另一边厢，Jackey 和 Sam 在忙于搬家的同时，也发生了口角进而抖出 Jackey 的童年阴影事件。而阿姨的惊吓，到底是为了什么事情呢？

2021年4月在衛武營表演廳首演後獲得廣大迴響，5月台北加演秒殺完售！ 因為三級警戒而苦悶的自律生活裡，《勸世三姊妹》的歌曲影片在2天達成30萬點閱， 線上口碑、新聞話題接連發酵 透過網路，《勸世三姊妹》領著製作團隊去到了一個更寬廣卻未知的嶄新世界。 台派俗女挑戰另類LA LA LAND 哭墓 牽亡 我的雙眼都見鬼 在這生死交雜的音樂劇舞台上，奏起舞曲渡亡魂 當三姊妹闊別多年重歸故土，回到雲林虎尾村老宅，赫然發現阿伯、阿嬸、二叔公、三嬸婆早早老起來放，全都沒變，只有時間悠悠走過這沒落所在。原本只是搶拿老家地契的三人，陰錯陽差捲入彌留大伯公的遺囑—得宋家人跳牽亡歌陣者，可獨拿億萬家產。三姊妹臨危受命，披掛上陣，從頭開始養成牽亡技藝想分一杯羹。當她們在小鎮裡尋尋覓覓，意外喚起關於失聯甚久的賭鬼法師父親、首席尫姨母親的回憶，疏遠的親情終於一一浮現。 Ordinary Taiwanese women present a unique Taiwanese-style musical. Wailing mourners, a soul-guiding song, my two eyes see nothing but ghosts. On this musical stage where the living and the dead intermingle, an assembly of song and dance help spirits pass over into the other world. When three sisters returned after many years to their old family home in Huwei, Yunlin, they found that their uncle, aunt, third great-uncle, and second great-aunt had hardly aged a day; only the passage of time had left its mark on the derelict house. The sisters, initially falling over each other to waive their right to inheritance, in an unexpected series of events were drawn into their second great-uncle’s dying wish—the Song family member that performs in the soul-guiding song troupe may receive the family's multimillion-dollar inheritance. The three sisters took on the challenge; with aim of splitting the inheritance, they started from scratch and retrained themselves in the art of the soul-guiding song. As they searched through the small town, they unexpectedly evoked memories of their long-lost father—a gambler and Taoist priest, and their mother, a professional mourner, and the estranged family ties, at long last, emerged one after another.

(Malay) Sebuah kisah pahlawan lagenda Tanah Melayu, Hang Tuah dan Hang Jebat. Berpunca daripada sebuah FITNAH Patih Karma Wijaya yang mengakibatkan Hang Tuah dihukum bunuh. Amukan Hang Jebat menuntut bela apabila menerima berita kematian saudaranya telah melumpuhkan sistem pemerintahan Kerajaan Melaka. Apabila Istana menyedari kepentingan dan keberadaan Hang Tuah untuk memulihkan keadaan, Bendahara membuat pengakuan akan derhakanya kepada Sultan kerana tidak membunuh Hang Tuah seperti yang dititahkan. TRAILER BOYS
Trailer Boys follows the journey of Muhammad Irfan Rafieh, a key member of Abam2 Trailer Singapura, which is a community of heavy vehicle drivers from Singapore. Truck drivers are mostly seen as uneducated and unskilled compared to the rest of society, especially in fast-paced competitive Singapore. This film explores how young truck drivers in Singapore such as Irfan find ways to break stereotypes and improve how society perceives them through their day to day work and their trailer club. Paper Moon: Jazz in the City Murakami and Jazz
Paper Moon: Jazz in the City brings together some of Malaysia’s finest musicians in two complementary back-to-back concerts. The second, Murakami and Jazz, presents a unique tribute to one of Japan’s greatest cultural icons, Haruki Murakami. As one of the best-known and most critically acclaimed writers working today, Murakami himself has had a lifelong love affair with all kinds of music, and especially jazz. His writing constantly draws inspiration and quotes from his favourite musicians. This unique multimedia concert combines three artistic elements: the narration of a specially written script based on Murakami’s words – from novels, short stories and essays – featuring Marina Tan and Gareth Richards as the two narrators; music directly referenced in Murakami’s texts and originals composed by Tay Cher Siang as a response to them, featuring WVC Jazz, Rizal Tony, Yow Weng Wai and singers Junji Delfino and Janet Lee; and a projected montage of images drawn from art and photography, including the work of leading Japanese artists. By presenting the interplay of words and music and images – as in a three-dimensional conversation – this concert draws attention to a sometimes overlooked facet of Murakami’s literary output and showcases the creative response of Malaysian performing artists to a great writer.
THE SHADES OF LOVE
The Shades of Love is an intimate journey into the loves, lives and losses of sex workers in Singapore during the time of Covid-19. When Covid-19 struck our shores, it had a devastating impact on the livelihoods of sex workers. It was barely noticed even as the world’s oldest profession looked like it might not survive a pandemic. Through exclusive and unprecedented access to three sex workers, this film unpacks the realities they face and sheds light on the humanity and dignity of this marginalised group through their own voices. All Together Now
“All Together Now” is a cultural and contemporary dance performance celebrating diversity and multiculturalism. Prepare to be mesmerised by ASK Dance Company, as they take you to explore the movement vocabulary of silat in “Langkah 17” and blow your mind with “Eclectic Shift” which combines various elements of traditional dances. Inspired by culture and nature, Dua Space Dance Theatre is set to present a dance interpretation of the philosophy of Mr. Sim Mow Yu (local educator and calligrapher) in “Ancient Inscriptions 万象甲骨”. The same company also promises to deliver profound messages surrounding Mother Nature in “Black & White @ Variation – The Black Snake in the White”. For a taste of contemporary and classical Indian dances, Sutra Foundation is delivering poignant homage to the Sun in “Aditya Archana (Odissi)” as well as to Rama and Siva in “Pibare Ramarasam & Exalted (Contemporary Indian Dance)”. Don't miss out on “Satu”, where Sutra Foundation, Dua Space Dance Theatre and ASK Dance Company take the stage together in a celebration of togetherness. “All Together Now” is a commissioned work by George Town Festival 2021.
Paper Moon: Jazz in the City Purnama
Paper Moon: Jazz in the City brings together some of Malaysia’s finest musicians in two complementary back-to-back concerts. The first, Purnama, is a premiere of the latest album from the award-winning group WVC Jazz. For this special occasion, they are joined by renowned names: guitarist Rizal Tony, saxophonist Yow Weng Wai, Tan Jie on shakuhachi (end-blown flute), together with singers Junji Delfino, Janet Lee, Jo and Tan Chee Shen. Purnama – a bright full moon – takes its inspiration from the music and songs of a different age: the era of Merdeka, when a new country was in the making. The lyrics of that time were beautiful, the sentiments hopeful, and the melodies grew out of the rich soil of this land. With all their eccentricities, foibles and imperfections, people lived together and shared a common musical language. And the image of a new moon seems somehow to capture the spirit of those times. Come and listen to great classic songs – “Hitam Manis”, “Main Shayar to Nahin”, “Putera Puteri”, “Penang Samba”, “Song of Crossing at Dawn” and more – in sparkling contemporary arrangements.
1987: UNTRACING THE CONSPIRACY
A film by Jason Soo examining Singapore's history through the depiction of narrow corridors, a suit and a tie, and a pristine book. In 1987, 22 people were arrested under Singapore’s Internal Security Act (ISA). Accused of being involved in a Marxist conspiracy to establish a communist state, many detainees were tortured and then coerced into implicating themselves and their friends on public television. Featuring interviews with ex-detainees and political exiles, the film focuses on the first 30 days of their ordeal. The ex-detainees describe various physical and psychological techniques used by their interrogators. This ignoble history of the ISA is a damning indictment of how detention without trial is not just a special kind of law, but a suspension of law. 國立中山大學劇場藝術學系2021年度製作《不男不女到彼岸》The Breasts of Tiresias Remix Taiwan 2021
〈不男不女到彼岸〉改編自紀堯姆·阿波里奈爾（法語：Guillaume Apollinaire）的作品，此劇被譽為超現實主義戲劇的開山之作，此次版本由國立中山大學許仁豪教授翻譯改編，演出版本由何怡璉教授導演帶領演員集體創作改編而成。 本劇內容受古希臘盲人先知泰瑞西亞斯（Tiresias）的故事啟發。劇作家顛倒了神話，重寫了劇本，以和平主義者和女權主義者的立場挑釁一戰前後的歐洲社會。 故事講述妻子泰芮絲厭倦家庭主婦的生活，毅然將自己的乳房戳破，離開丈夫，改了一個男性的名字「泰瑞西亞斯」，並到別的國家發展事業，剩下丈夫一個人換上女裝，擔起妻子的角色，並每天誕下40,052個嬰兒，他深信孩子長大後會回報到他身上，故事最終泰瑞西亞斯是否會重新身為女性呢？ 劇情天馬行空，荒謬至極，是性別替換的狂想曲，也是預言家的裝瘋賣傻。劇作家藉這樣荒謬的情節，其實對藝術的社會功能、性別的社會分工，還有人口繁衍與國家機器的關係，展開批判。情節四散，人物誇張，各種聲光效果的安排，一再刻意打破寫實舞台的鏡框式幻覺，是時代先鋒藝術浪潮下的產物，更是歐洲文明在一戰前後，文化病徵的爆發。 此次的改編試圖將原著置入當下台灣的脈絡，一方面省思同婚通過後的台灣性別意識，一方面對當代台灣的處境展開批判。形式風格大膽實驗，打開影像、聲音、舞台與服裝的跨界探索；議題探索從台灣千禧世代的世界觀與價值觀出發，連通劇作家在一百年前做下的批判式預言，跨越文化與歷史鴻溝。性別顛覆只是起始切入點，人類未來命運的省思才是重點。 注意事項| ※ 為保護創作者權益，本演出禁止拍照、錄音、錄影。 ※ 建議觀賞年齡12歲以上

Freedom Film Fest SG created a Film Lab 2 years ago, in hopes of expanding our story-telling styles for social change-oriented POVs. The world has changed since then, shifting in unimaginable ways. And yet, stories will never stop being told. Perspectives will continuously be represented. Histories will always be collected. Freedom Film Fest kickstarts our anniversary celebrations, presenting two works from our Film Lab. We have worked very hard over the past decade to bring light to often-hidden stories of Singapore and we hope you will join us for a frank discussion with 5 young film makers about the future of story telling in Singapore.
