Ensemble Virama celebrates its 10th Anniversary, with a special programme of French & American Chamber Music, collaborating with internationally renowned trumpet virtuoso Hou Chuan-An. Having held the position of Principal Trumpet of the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, and currently an Assistant Professor at the National Taiwan University of Arts, Chuan-An has brought home many accolades: XVI Tchaikovsky Competition, Jeju International Brass Competition, International Trumpet Guild Solo Competition, to name a few. The trumpet, known for its magnificent and bright timbre, is not an instrument commonly associated with Chamber Music. This has not stopped some remarkable composers from producing some outstanding Chamber Music that includes the golden brass instrument. Vincent d’indy, Aaron Copland, Alexandre Tansman, Charles Ives, and Saint-Saëns have all written pieces that are expressive, conversational, emotional, dramatic, joyful, and theatrical, offering a memorable concert experience.

🎼ProMuzika Presents “Solace of Papan” 🎭 Experience Malaysia’s first original opera in English, performed with a full orchestra this July! Set in the historic town of Papan, the opera tells the heroic story of Sybil Kathigasu (born Sybil Medan Daly) and her husband, who bravely aided the Malayan resistance during WWII. Despite torture and imprisonment by the Japanese, Sybil’s courage and sacrifice shine through. Sybil was awarded the King George Medal for Gallantry months before she succumbed to her wounds in June 1948, making her the only Malayan woman to have received this distinction. With a libretto by Chin San Sooi and music by Lam Siu Chong, “Solace of Papan” is a powerful journey of hope and resilience. 🎟 Don’t miss this emotional and historic performance!
