JoiFest Season 4: 谢师会 The Teacher Appreciation Banquet
《谢师会》由《人间烟火》出品,改编自马华作家赖国芳的短篇小说。故事跨越马来西亚和新加坡三十年,讲述老师与学生在理想与现实间的选择、挣扎与反省。尹文釬编剧,程守明导演,大马戏剧教母孙春美担任创作顾问,林伟彬制作。剧情采用倒叙和现行交错手法,描绘李国基与刘老师渐行渐远的师生情谊。《红楼梦》中《葬花吟》的场景反映青春在理想与现实间的对立。2018年谢师会与马来西亚改朝换代的投票日相呼应,展示时代变迁中的坚守与妥协。众人多年后重逢,面对被时代辜负的初心,谁才是生命的救赎?
JoiFest Season 4: The Monkey King Adventures: Love of Onibaba 西遊後傳：鬼婆の愛
The Japanese Team ITO collaborates with Penang’s Ombak Potehi to stage a localised sequel to the literary classic Journey to the West. As in the original story, Tang Sam Tsong, the legendary Tang dynasty Buddhist monk, travels to India to look for sacred scriptures. He is accompanied by Sun Ngoo-khong (Monkey King), Tu Pat Kai (Pigsy), and Sua Tseng (Friar Sandy). However, on their return journey from India, they are tricked by Onibaba, a female supernatural monster in Japanese folklore, to disembark at Penang Island. Disguised as a beautiful lady, Onibaba dances and sings about how she has fallen in love with Tang in her dream. She orders her yokai (supernatural monsters) to kidnap Tang. The Monkey King and his friends frantically look for Tang and fight with the yokai monsters in a series of spectacular battles. Who wins? Is Onibaba’s love for Tang ever returned? See the show to find out the answers. Be captivated by the thrilling fighting scenes featuring string puppets that split into two, and flying potehi glove puppets!

An immersive and participative theatrical event that doubles up as an exhibition, "so happy i could die" invites audiences to reflect on the meaning of fulfilment and the consequences of the choices they make. This is the sixth production of Theatresauce’s 2023 season.

Psychosynthesis is a powerful, dynamic, fast-paced theatrical dance production. The struggles faced by individuals and community during the pandemic and the subsequent social, emotional and cerebral toll informs the genesis of the piece, forming an impressionistic collage of movement and dance.

JoiFest Season 4: My Ugly Duckling
My Ugly Duckling is a captivating children’s play about a young girl who finds meaning and acceptance through an unlikely friendship. Yaya loves reading and drawing. Her favourite book is “The Ugly Duckling.” Her happiest moments are spent sketching and colouring. Unfortunately, her mother does not seem to like her drawings. Yaya feels defeated, convinced that she can do nothing right. But one day, Yaya meets an awkward yet endearing ugly duck, and their companionship becomes a source of healing for her wounded heart as they embark on a whimsical journey together. Inspired by the much-loved fairytale, ‘The Ugly Duckling’, My Ugly Duckling is a compelling exploration of love, acceptance, and forgiveness, transforming struggles and challenges into hope.
JoiFest Season 4: Melur The Musical (Part 1)
Set during the Malayan Emergency, this musical tells the story of two women, Melur and Cempaka, whose love and friendship are tested by conflicting values and circumstances. Melur’s husband, Si Aman, is a Silat warrior fighting colonial rule, while Cempaka’s husband, Sir Wilson, is the British High Commissioner enforcing order. When tensions escalate, Sir Wilson brutally murders Melur and Si Aman. However, Melur returns as a vengeful Pontianak, haunting Wilson and Cempaka as they face the wrath of her supernatural revenge.
JoiFest Season 4: PERGOLESI DOUBLE BILL
Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (1710–1736), a prominent Italian Baroque composer of the Neapolitan school, is celebrated for his influential works in both sacred and operatic music. This performance features two of his masterpieces: Salve Regina in C minor, showcasing mezzo-soprano Lim Yee Fen with the KLCO String Quartet, and the comic opera La Serva Padrona (The Maid Turned Mistress), which tells the humorous tale of a cunning maid, Serpina, who tricks her master, Uberto, into marrying her. Both performances are accompanied by pre-performance talks by Dr. Bernard Tan.
JoiFest Season 4: IQ.Rock
IQ.ROCK tells the story of a group of SPM students from rural Serting, Negeri Sembilan, who — like many school-leavers in real life — lack direction, are aimless and doomed by the system that raised them. The story critically highlights the inequities of the education system; particularly how they affect rural communities, through the quiet sense of chaos and social issues that play out within a sleepy rubber tapping community, which is further stirred by the arrival of a veteran English teacher, Mary, from the city. The play offers a glimpse of the contrasts and inequalities that exist in Malaysia, which go far beyond just a lack of English proficiency, as Mary finds out.

JoiFest Season 4: CHARITY CONCERT 2023 - PODIUM DANCE STUDIOS
Podium Dance Studio, with the aid of Creative Dance Academy, hosted our 7th bi-annual charity concert in 2023. There were beautiful and outstanding dance numbers: from classical waltz, traditional dances, contemporary, and K-pop. With iconic performances like Swanhilda Coppelia, Tarantella, Blue Bird, and Le Corsaire: the audience enjoyed the quality and variety provided. Podium Dance Studio will continue hosting charity concert for years to come!
