About This Event

Synopsis

Caliban is a performance that reimagines Shakespeare’s The Tempest from the perspective of Caliban, the island’s original inhabitant whose land, language, and freedom were taken. Combining Nusantara instrumentation with wayang kulit elements....such as dramatic movement, masks, and visual symbolism, the performance brings Caliban’s memories, anger, and awareness of lost identity to life. More than a fantasy figure, Caliban becomes a symbol of colonized peoples silenced by foreign powers, offering a powerful reflection on how history is shaped from perspectives often ignored.
