About This Event

Classical Traditions: Ragas and Mudras invites audiences into the expressive world of Indian classical music and dance. The performance explores the beauty of ragas, the melodic frameworks that define mood and emotion, and mudras, the symbolic gestures central to storytelling in classical dance.

Musicians from The Temple of Fine Arts Malaysia present refined interpretations from both Hindustani and Carnatic traditions, showcasing the complexity, discipline and emotional impact of these musical lineages.

The evening is further enriched by four classical dance styles, each bringing its own aesthetic language:

  • Bharatanatyam – known for sculptural lines, precise footwork and expressive narration.
  • Odissi – recognised for fluid, graceful movement inspired by temple sculptures.
  • Kathak – dynamic with rhythmic footwork, swift spins and dramatic expression.
  • Kuchipudi – blending strong rhythms with elegant movement and lively acting.

Staged at the Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS, this production reflects The Temple of Fine Arts Malaysia’s unwavering dedication to nurturing and sharing the richness of Indian classical traditions. It promises an evening of sound, rhythm and artistry woven into a singular cultural experience.
