Want to write your own play but don’t know how to start? 

Multi-award winning Singaporean playwright Desmond Sim will be in town to run an exclusive 3-day playwriting workshop in December in conjunction with the re-staging of The Swimming Instructor. 

Perfect for beginners, this course covers the essentials of short playwriting—concept, structure, characterisation, dialogue, and the writing process—to help you craft powerful, effective plays.

With more than 30 plays under his belt, Sim will be sharing over 20 years of experience in writing to help you kickstart your own journey.

About Desmond Sim
Desmond is a multi-award winning writer in his past 20 years of writing. He has won prizes in national short story, poetry and playwriting competitions. He was the first playwright-in-Residence (at TheatreWorks in 1990) and helped launched Writers’ Lab there. The Lab is still running today. He also launched Singapore Theatre Oasis’ Writers’ Spa at ACTION Theatre 2005 - 2009. He has written more than 30 plays, almost all of which have been produced – mostly with established theatre companies in Singapore (ACTION Theatre, W!ld Rice, TheatreWorks, SRT), and at Actors’ Theatre of Louisville, USA.

Desmond is the co-screenwriter of Thai movie BEAUTIFUL BOXER, which has won awards in Europe and America. In 2008/2009 he also co-wrote the movie THE WEDDING GAME which was directed by Ekachai Uekrongtham, starring Fann Wong and Christopher Lee. His two recent plays were featured in an ACTION Theatre and National Museum collaboration titled SINGAPORE LOVE LETTERS (2009) directed by Samantha Scott Blackhall, and starring Tan Kheng Hua and Casey Lim. His most recent work, MANHOOD, opened at ACTION Theatre in September 2009 and was largely sold out.
