JOM TARI Traversing Space, Virtual Dance Performance, In Celebration of International Dance Day 2022
International Dance Day, which falls on 29th April every year, celebrates dance as an art form that brings people together across cultural divides. Dance Department at the Faculty of Creative Arts, Universiti Malaya, recognizes the significance of this celebration and had organized performances since 2019 in efforts to advocate DANCE. We produced site-specific pieces in 2019 to create awareness about our existence and to promote diversity in dances on the campus. In 2020, we celebrated dance despite of pandemic by producing a video themed "Dancing amidst Covid-19" through which we featured “dancing from home”. We continued the trend in 2021, but this time, we produced an international collaborative virtual showcase by inviting choreographers from Malaysia and abroad, namely the U.S.A, United Arab Emirates, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea, and Hong Kong. This year’s performance will also be an international collaboration comprising of works from Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Korea. It will feature 15 pieces from various dance genres - classical, traditional, and contemporary. We share our gratitude and thank all our local and international participants for their contribution and support in making the production more diverse and colorful!
