MEMORIES: A Piano Recital by Bernard Tan

Malaysian pianist Dr. Bernard Tan holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in collaborative piano from the University of Michigan, USA, where he studied under the esteemed Martin Katz—becoming the only Malaysian to complete this prestigious program. He also earned his Master of Music with Distinction from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in the United Kingdom under the tutelage of Robin Bowman and Jan Loeffler. A versatile and award-winning pianist, Bernard has received numerous accolades, including the John Ireland Accompanist Prize and the Birmingham Town Hall Symphony Hall Prize. He has been praised by British pianist Robin Bowman for his “admirable physiological setup,” reflecting his commitment to technique as the foundation of expressive performance. His teaching philosophy has enabled students of all levels to thrive. Actively involved in masterclasses, workshops, and studio teaching, Bernard currently serves as a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Music, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia.
