TRACE/US
TRACE/US is a video essay project that hopes to document the journey of two artists as they embark on a journey to find avatars of people they have loved and lost. Aleysha searches for the man who would eventually become her grandfather while Theyvapaalan searches for the ghost of her father.

About This Event
Using written and photographic materials from past lives, the two artists weave together journal entries, love letters, photographs and personal stories to bring the ghosts of loved ones back to life in video essays as they explore grief, identity, loss and life.
After spending 1 week exploring, excavating and examining Penang and the lives lived there, The artists are now ready to present their journeys to the public in the form of an exhibition where two video essays by Leysha Al-yahya and Theyvapaalan S Jayaratnam will be screened along with sound scape by Iwaz.
The 20-minute videos are played on a loop along with the soundscape while materials collected from their loved ones are put on display to allow our audience to fully immerse themselves in the world of Penang past. Tickets are per entry so feel free to stay as long and short as you would like.
The Artist Talk session on the 18th of May will start at 8pm with a screening of the two videos before moving into a relaxed conversation and Q&A session between the artists and the audience.
TRACE/US is proudly supported by the Krishen Jit Fund, receiving a grant in 2024 to make this special little project possible.
