About This Event
"It’s been 20 years — and I am now older than he was when he told me those stories. His stories have moved and troubled me all this time.”
A woman writer remembers and recreates a conversation which took place 20 years ago — on the formative years of a famous theatre director.
Mortal Man: Two Monologues is the latest play by Leow Puay Tin, one of Southeast Asia’s most original and acclaimed playwrights.
Mortal Man: Two Monologues employs Puay Tin's delightfully innovative 'tikam-tikam' method of combining performance with chance and randomness — to tell the overlapping story of two different artists in Malaysia. The play sketches their childhoods, influences, education, and socio-cultural environment, and considers how these elements shape their artistic practice within the broader landscape.
