ZX 2024 | From Street to Sketchbook, An Urban Sketch Outing with Cassielelolea

Cassie is a visual artist from Kuala Lumpur known for her watercolour and ink work, fusing fluid marks with recognisable forms. Exhibiting across Malaysia, she founded Le Art Shop for urban sketchers and hosts life-drawing sessions, inspiring artists to capture their surroundings in real-time.

About This Event

Do take advantage of our subsidised workshops—this is the perfect opportunity to explore a new activity or skill! Limited capacity.

Join @cassielelolea for an urban sketching workshop at the vibrant TTDI Wet Market. Open to both novice and experienced artists, this session will introduce you to the fundamentals of urban sketching. You will learn the art of keen observation––drawing what you see rather than what you think you see and capturing the lively essence of market stalls. Cassie will also share practical tips on packing for sketching on-the-go, working with limited supplies, and preparing for a successful sketching experience.

  • Date: 12th October 2024, Saturday
  • Time: 9AM - 12PM
  • Venue: Pasar Besar Taman Tun Dr. Ismail (TTDI), Kuala Lumpur

Note: 

  • Workshop participants to meet directly at Pasar Besar Taman Tun Dr. Ismail (TTDI). Specific meeting point to be advised once you have signed-up.  
  •  Demonstration will be done in watercolour, but feel free to bring your preferred medium. 

What will be provided: 

  • Watercolour paper/paper 
  •  1x Blank Greeting card with envelope 
  •  1x Blank Postcard 
  • 1x Sketch pencil 
  • Light refreshments (a drink and snack) will be provided 

What to bring:  

  • Drawing pad/sketchbook - a sketchbook that can withstand water if you plan to work with a wet medium
  • Watercolour set - suggest watercolour set in half-pans, or portable ones in a palette that has mixing space
  • Brushes - either traditional brushes or water brushes like the Pentel Aquash 
  • A small plastic jar for water - if you are planning to work with watercolour 
  • A rag or kitchen towel for cleaning  
  • Feel free to bring your preferred medium - anything easy to manage outdoors, e.g. graphite pencil, colour pencil, fountain pen, graphic pen, etc. 

Optional: 

  • Foldable stool 
  • Water bottle - for drinking and for those who work with watercolour, it comes in handy!
