‘Ban Ban Kia’ Lai Liao with Huruf, Gaik Cheng & Chin Eng

「慢慢行」走街导览

A special edition of Ban Ban Kia walking tour to tell the stories of George Town and introduce Penang’s typographic streetscapes, guided by Sueh Li (huruf) with her laoyee laocik friends as special guests (Gaik Cheng & Chin Eng). Participants will ban ban kia with us as we go on a guided tour around George Town to look at old shop signs and discover vernacular memories. Let’s uncover and embrace our unique visual and cultural heritage. 

「慢慢行」走街导览活动来料!这次我们邀请两位在 Phoh Theh 长大的朋友们叙述乔治市的故事和口述历史，也通过老招牌介绍槟城的字景。这次导览 由 Sueh Li （Huruf）与特别嘉宾（玉菁 & 进荣）分别一起带领。参与者将与我们一起在乔治市「慢慢行」，探索老招牌和发掘乔治市的在地记忆。让我们一起发 现并欣赏这独特的视觉和文化遗 产。

  • Meeting point: Sia Boey Urban Archaeological Park (opposite Zhu Yuan Vegetarian Restaurant)
  • Guides: Tan Sueh Li
  • Special guest: Gaik Cheng, who grew up in Sia Boey, comes from a family that once operated as wholesalers of rice, sugar, and flour. She will join us to share the stories of Sia Boey through the lens of her childhood memories.
  • Conduct in ENGLISH (with Hokkien).

  • Meeting point: Khoo Kongsi entrance
  • Guides: Tan Sueh Li
  • Special guest: Chin Eng, who grew up in the Khoo Kongsi area and often played around Phoh Theh, treating Carnarvon Street as his childhood playground. He will join us to recount the vernacular memories and stories of Carnarvon Street.
  • Conduct in ENGLISH (with Hokkien).
