About This Event

Semangat Tinak (2024)

When Tinak, a young Orang Asli woman, faces encroachment on her ancestral land, the very essence of her community’s identity is threatened. Without their land, her community risks losing their cultural identity, traditional way of life, and spiritual connection to their ancestors. Amid escalating conflicts in her village, Tinak draws strength from her father’s legacy and his guiding words, 'Rise up like the Tekukur bird.' Through her journey to fight for her village’s ancestral land, Tinak learns the true meaning of leadership and the indomitable strength that comes from standing together as a community.

Apa Kata Wanita Orang Asli

Apa Kata Wanita Orang Asli is a young Orang Asli women collective from various tribes and various states in Peninsular Malaysia. Our vision is to empower Orang Asli youth to understand the issues faced by our community, their identity and rights, and the history of Orang Asli. We organise programmes with Orang Asli youth, such as workshops on human rights and Indigenous Peoples’ rights, content creation training and film screenings.

This event is part of FreedomFilmFest 2024, which is organised by Freedom Film Network (Pertubuhan Perfileman Sosial Malaysia), a non-profit society dedicated to the development and promotion of social justice and human rights films.
