Heroic Tales from Ethiopia to Seville
Kuala Lumpur City Opera was established in 2012 and incorporated in 2015. In 2024, KLCO opened audition and formed a permanent orchestra consisting of returning players and young musicians. “Heroic Tales from Ethiopia to Seville” is the new KLCO Orchestra’s maiden concert.

Tales of heroism have always inspired the listener to strive to greater heights; of the human spirit enduring and prevailing over the harshest of hard times. KL City Opera orchestra under the baton of conductor, Bernard Tan presents an evening of orchestral splendor spanning the Baroque to the Romantic eras. The concert opens with Handel's lively "Arrival of the Queen of Sheba" from his oratorio "Solomon," setting a joyous tone. Next, Mozart's dramatic overture to "Don Giovanni" transitions from solemn chords to a lively allegro, embodying the opera's themes of seduction and danger. Rossini's overture to "The Barber of Seville" follows, with its infectious energy and wit. Richard Strauss's "Symphony for Winds," showcases his early genius with rich textures and engaging melodies. Beethoven's powerful "Coriolan Overture" depicts the inner conflict of the Roman general Coriolanus, leading to Schubert's "Unfinished Symphony," a masterpiece of lyrical beauty and emotional complexity.
