About This Event

When we gaze into the past and present of Penang’s art scene, can we envision the future that lies ahead?

This roundtable discussion is a unique and golden opportunity for artists, stakeholders, and policymakers alike to come together and engage in constructive dialogue on Penang's art ecosystem.

Amid globalisation and digitalisation, the art ecosystem has undergone a myriad of changes impacting production, distribution, and consumption of art services and products. This has motivated discourse in changing artist needs and unveiled new industry requirements, which have implications on policy and practice.

Conversations will address the past, present and foreseeable future challenges that will hinder the growth and sustainability of Penang’s art scene, and chart a course towards meaningful change. By fostering collaboration at national, state and local levels, the aim is to catalyse innovative initiatives and propose actionable solutions that will allow the Penang art ecosystem to soar to new heights.

The roundtable discussion will be moderated by Dr Beh May Ting from Penang Institute, and contemporary artist Hoo Fan Chon.
