Yuni is a smart girl with bright dreams, aspiring to enter university. One day she rejects a marriage proposal from a man she barely knows. When she rejects a second proposal, it triggers a concern relating to a local myth: if two proposals are rejected, a person will never marry. Poetry becomes her escape, her means of disappearing and hiding from the world. She finds solace in the verses, if only for a moment.

Reality comes crashing down on her one day, when her literature teacher Pak Damar becomes the third man to propose to her. Yuni faces two options: to run away with Yoga, a shy younger boy from her school, or to get married to Pak Damar. Both sound like a good deal, but does marriage have to be reduced to transactional ‘deals’?
