PEON

Are you the master of your mobile phone? Or are you a mere puppet on its strings? 

PEON, meaning a courier of goods or dispatch in Malay, is an interactive play that critiques the current generation’s manic obsession with handheld technology. 

Set in a not-so-distant future, three “Peon” delivery boys are trapped on a train. After receiving a mysterious message, they suspect that their packages are loaded with ticking bombs. 

First performed in 2017 at Markas Kota Damansara and Kotak, Five Arts Centre, the play was reworked to become an interactive performance at the Ipoh Collective Festival in 2019. George Town Festival will be the production’s latest outing, where it will be presented within a local context.

PEON, yang bermaksud penghantar dalam Bahasa Melayu, adalah sebuah persembahan interaktif yang mengkritik obsesi manik generasi kini terhadap teknologi mudah alih.

Berlatar belakangkan masa depan yang tidak begitu jauh, tiga budak penghantar “Peon” terperangkap dalam sebuah kereta api. Selepas menerima mesej misteri, mereka mengesyaki bahawa bungkusan mereka mengandungi bom.

Pertama kali dipersembahkan pada tahun 2017 di Markas Kota Damansara dan Kotak, Five Arts Centre, drama ini diolah semula untuk menjadi persembahan interaktif di Ipoh Collective Festival pada tahun 2019. George Town Festival akan menjadi penampilan terbaru produksi ini, di mana ia akan dipersembahkan dalam konteks tempatan.

Artist Bio

Patblas Creative

A creative production company in Malaysia that offers a wide range of creative services, including theatre productions, short films, web series and backstage work. Formerly known as Patblas Studio, the company was founded in 2014 by a group of undergraduates from the National Academy of Arts, Cultural and Heritage (ASWARA).
