The Space <between> Us
About This Event
A step toward your own heart
is a step toward the Beloved.
In this house of mirrors
you see a lot of things –
Rub your eyes, Only You exist.

'The Space <between> Us,' is group show comprised of a collective of bold young artists that underwent the DTI Artist Residency Programme, hosted by Filamen and Muzium Telekom. Inspired and prompted by the master works of Syed Ahmad Jamal, Ise Ismail, and Latif Mohiddin, 5 artists showcases spatial works that expand beyond the traditional medium of sculpture and canvas-based works.
The essence of human kinship forms the thematic core, exploring the profound connections that surpass mere biology. Beyond blood ties, artists poetically unravel the intricacies of hereditary bonds, exposing the inexplicable yearning for past relationships. Emotions resonate through time, evoking sensations of belonging and longing for entities long departed. This ethereal bond defies conventional understanding, accentuating the emotional depth of relationships that transcend temporal and spatial boundaries.
Throughout the exhibition, narratives by the artists explore various dimensions of distance: the echoes of remembrance, the yearning of longing, the lure of escapism, the threads of biological heredity, the fragments of memories, and the resonance of lost conversations. Each piece serves as a fragment of a larger narrative, inviting contemplation on the intangible threads that shapes the multifaceted dimensions of human connection.
'The Space <between> Us' delves into the enduring nature of these connections, urging viewers to traverse the ethereal landscapes of human emotion, connection and disassociation. The exhibition challenges the constraints of physicality, emphasising the enduring impact of ancestral ties and the poignant echoes of relationships that defy the limitations of physical presence.
Featuring the works of Ahmad Aliff Firdaus, Amira Syahirah, Mahesh Ragupathy, Robinson Anak Atin & Zafree Azhar, taking place at the DAG (Digital Art Gallery) housed in Muzium Telekom. ’The Space <between> Us’ will be open for public viewing from the 15th December 2023 till 15th of March 2024, and is made possible by the generous support of the Yayasan Telekom foundation.
